Arthroscopic Meniscal Surgery
- Keyhole surgery to treat meniscal tear by repair or resection
- Aim is to preserve (repair) as much meniscus as possible utilising latest techniques and technology
- There are many tear configurations of which only 15-20% are repairable ( where meniscus is sewn back together)
- If repaired then a removable brace is required preventing flexion beyond 90 degrees is required for 6 weeks
- If not repairable then careful resection of tear only is required
- Special training and techniques required
- Must do a rehabilation program after surgery where one must expect a 3-4 month recovery
- Purpose of surgery is to return to activity / reduce requirement for knee replacement
