Hip Replacement Surgery

I was fortunate to be referred to Mr Jairaj by my GP following months of increasing pain and a pronounced limp.

An MRI scan confirmed osteoarthritis in my left hip and Mr Jairaj explained that the degree of degeneration in the joint meant that I would need a Total Hip Replacement to eliminate the pain and allow me to return to normal activity. He recommended that I have a custom made hip prosthesis and so, following a CT scan to take measurements of my hip joint, I had a Hip Replacement with a customised component.

My recovery was quick . Within five weeks I was driving and using minimal walking aids. With physiotherapy my muscles regained strength and I was soon able to resume activities that I hadn’t been able to do for years eg a walking holiday in Greece as well as returning to exercise classes and the gym.

With hindsight I can see that I did not realise how crucial it was to my recovery that the prosthesis was customised specifically for my hip joint….. not to mention a top class surgeon with expertise in this field.

Because of this lack of realisation I subsequently had a right hip replacement in 2024 using a non customised component. This decision was simply based on convenience as I had moved home. It is eight months since the operation and recovery has been slow and walking can be painful. I am hoping that this will resolve as I get stronger and continue with physiotherapy….

It is now 12 years since my left hip replacement and I have had no issues whatsoever. I feel a real sense of gratitude to Mr Jairaj – not only for his skill, experience and expertise but for being able to offer and to deliver the optimal solution for a successful hip replacement and a rapid recovery time.
