My initial contact with Paul came through my Physio in Dubai, Kelly Robinson at Anatomy Rehab. She recommended I seen him given my limited flexibility in my left hip which was causing a significant limp and some back issues. Luckily I had no major pain issues but I was worried about impacting my back further. An initial X-ray showed I had significant OA in my left hip and a replacement was only a matter of when, not if.
I am a relatively fit 63 year old, with golf being my main sport along with cardio work mainly on the Elliptical these days as I can no longer run. Paul was excellent throughout detailing the benefits and also the risks with the surgery. After a year or so of procrastination I decided to go ahead with the surgery after I put my back out caused by my lack of flexibility on my left side. A scan of my legs was then undertaken to ensure I had a “made to measure” hip joint for my leg structure / size. I am based in Dubai and decided to get my operation carried out at Medcare Orthopaedic Hospital where Paul attends for 10 days or so every month. Paul set a stretch target of getting back to golf in 6 weeks although Kelly thought this was very optimistic…….
The operation went very well and as promised I was up walking with a stroller the same day, with crutches the next day and going up and down stairs on crutches on the 3rd day at which point I was released from the hospital. The next 10 days or so are the healing period although I remained as active as I could on crutches and eventually working up to 10,000 steps a day. After 2 weeks and my first visit to Kelly the crutches were ditched and I was walking “gingerly” freely. Physio then started in earnest along with gym work and stretching aiming to increase my strength and flexibility in my left hip. After 4 ½ weeks post surgery I was putting, pitching and hitting a few balls lightly. From there I started to increase my ball hitting and 6 weeks after my surgery I played 18 holes, albeit in a golf cart and actually played a further 4 rounds that week. I have had no adverse reaction to golfing on my new hip and with increased use my hip gets better and better.
I would highly recommend Paul to anyone considering hip surgery. There is no doubt in my mind that Paul’s skill and experience and careful planning of the operation are the main factors which have allowed me to recover from the operation so well and quickly.
