Hip Replacement Surgery

My initial contact with Paul Jairaj was as a result of a friend’s recommendation.

Based on initial x-rays it was agreed that a right hip replacement procedure was necessary.

My wife and I met Paul at the Shard and he briefed us on the latest techniques of patient-specific total hip replacement surgery, of which he is a leading practitioner. This involved full imaging of the lower body and sending these images to Switzerland where a specialist company tried to match an implant to my leg cavity. In 95% of the cases there was a ready match but in 5% there wasn’t – in which case a tailored implant was created from the imaging by 3D printing. It was explained that there would be no difference in cost for either circumstance.

The imaging was duly carried out and I was in the select 5%! It happened that the time-lag for manufacture coincided with my recovery period from Covid.

Paul gave us a reasonable level of insight into what the procedure entailed. We were greatly impressed but not frightened off. The procedure went to plan, and after several days recuperation and mobility guidance I was discharged. My recollection is that the whole recuperation period was virtually pain-free. Paul had advised that, because the joint would be a perfect fit and would more readily merge with the surrounding bone, recovery would be quicker than under more traditional procedures – but warned of the dangers of trying to revert too quickly to normal activity, as the muscles needed to regain strength. This was very wise advice.

Paul has seen me twice since to check that recovery from the hip operation was complete. I assured him that there had been no problems, thanked him for his life-changing treatment and have already recommended him to others deserving of first-class professional attention.
